There’s this blog that I like to read regularly. One time she said that her friends commented how the tone of her writings now have changed compared to before. They said that before, her writings were filled with anger and frustrations, but now, her writings are mostly self reflective and the tone is laid-back. The “before” was the period from when she was still a grad student who struggled with tons of researches and paper, continuing to her job-seeking phase, up to the point she got a job. She pondered that maybe the changes are due to the fact that she’s settled now. She’s got a great job at a great company and is married to her longtime boyfriend. I wonder if I will turn out that way too. Right now most of my posts are tirades and rants. Will I calm down when I’m settled? Or maybe the more important question is, will I ever be able to reach my dream and settle down? Wallahu’alam. Insya Allah

“What do you mean?”
“I’m saying, I can’t help you this time. I’m up to my neck in my own problems.”
“Wha–? What happened?”
“None of your business.”
“That’s not a very nice thing to say. I’m trying to help you here, you know.”
“And I’m saying, I don’t need your help. You can’t even help yourself, how do you plan to help me? “
….
“How come you never told me anything?”
“Let’s see.. I guess that is because, unlike a certain someone, I don’t go around telling the whole world that I’m the most unfortunate person in the whole universe. Unlike YOU, I take care of my own problems. I don’t burden others..”

A fast-paced action with plot twists coming up one after another. Contrary to what most people say about it, I don’t think it’s THAT great. Everything was too much, even the plot twists. Reading it feels like watching a big-budget Hollywood action flick. Great action, no substance, just flash-bang-boom all over (think Transformer). It used the common ingredients and formula to make an action manga a bestseller and I think that it fairly succeeded in accomplishing what it set out to do. But that’s about it. I doubt it’ll leave any impression on me by the time I finish reading it (though I have to give the mangaka props for managing to make it somewhat enjoyable despite theĀ overused formula). 7,5 out of 10.

Hahaa memalukan sekali masalah tari Pendet kemarin. I found it really strange that everyone and especially the media instantly (dan dengan penuh semangat) mencaci-maki Malaysia. How could they be so confident of their side of the story? Did it never occur to them to verify the so-called theft? Didn’t they think of the possibility that the blame might lie on Discovery? But nooo!! Nobody I talked to even think of the possibility. They vehemently declared that “Malaysia is once again out to steal our culture!!!” and they called on everyone to come join the hate wagon. So now Discovery has admitted that it was their mistake, what do you have to say? Nothing. And if anything, this incident only serves as a testament to your stupidity. Hehh. And what’s worse, pemerintah kita yang tercinta itu (hoekk) made an official protest to Malaysia about this matter. Can you imagine? They made a big fuss over nothing!! And this is the government for God sake!!! How can they made a mistake over something like that?? So what are you going to do now? Issue apology to Malaysia? Hahh..
Everyone should stop this hating game already. It’s been going on for too long and too far and nothing good will come of it..

Salemba, sebagai daerah mahasiswa, adalah sarang bajaj. You can find bajaj anywhere and anytime (except when you’re looking for one
). My sister and I wanted to indulge ourselves a bit and so we decided to ride one from our kosan to UI campus. One bajaj was coming our way, and we hailed it.
“Kampus UI, Pak.”
“Oke.”
“Berapa?”
“Lima belas ribu.”
“HAHHH?? Tujuh ribu..!”
The driver gave us a disdainful look and drove away haughtily (and noisily, like all bajaj’ do), leaving my sister and me with our mouths hanging open. Paseban ampe FK UI 15 ribu??!! Mending gw naik taksi!! Enak aja..!! Terus marah pula dia waktu ditawar. Dasar bajaj gila!!
Kalau mau ber-husnuz dzhan, mungkin aja si supir rada budek dan salah denger. But still it didn’t justify the way he treated us.
NB: Paseban-FK UI itu kira-kira jaraknya gasibu-ganesha

This is an old one, written when I just moved to Jakarta.
The first thing that I notice of Jakartans is that they don’t have the concept of personal space. They love sticking to people even if it’s not crowded. There have been several instances where I was on an angkot and there was only one other passenger. Of all the places in the empty angkot the passenger chose to sit right next to me, so close that we’re rubbing on each other. And when she fumbled in her bag, looking for the angkot fare, her elbow would invade my personal space. That’s just plain weird (and very uncomfortable). Trying to be husnuz dzhan-ing, maybe they’re so used to being squashed in a crowd that they feel insecure in an empty place.
The second one is people here love to spit. They spit everywhere. At the side of the road, in the market, in the bus and even in an angkot (yes, angkot). Very disgusting. I lived in Bandung for almost 5 years and I rarely (if ever) saw spittle at the side of the road. One time, there was even an old man who spit so zealously that along with the spit he also threw out some phlegm. And this happened on a bus, can you believe it?? Gross.. What if he had some contagious disease? Others on the bus could have been infected.

When “Watchmen” was being showed here I don’t know why, but I wanted to watch it so much even though I don’t usually like that kind of movies. But I didn’t have the time (and the money
) that I only got to watch it today (courtesy of ITC kuningan). And I thanked myself for not being able to allocate the money to watch it at XXI. IT WAS AWFUL. ughhh.
The guy playing dr. manhattan was trying too hard to be the all-powerful omniscient being that he was supposed to be (and failed badly at it), that stupid long-haired girl was completely useless and the makeup was mediocre at best (Dan has flabby tummy but somehow it was gone whenever he dons his costume). And the story.. ughh don’t get me started on the story. While watching it I can’t help thinking to myself, “what kind of a joke is this?”. Basically the movie was just a parade of special effects that you get tired of halfway (or maybe not even halfway). And it’s 2.5 hours long. Can you imagine sitting in the cinema for 2.5 hours cursing yourself for wasting your money on 2.5 hour-long torture?? I shudder at the mere thought of it. >_<
