I was gonna rant on the outrageously bad “Halloween II” but on second thought I don’t think it even deserves my rants. ^^ I’ll just say this, spare yourself (and your wallet). DON’T watch it. Unless you want to know what a BADDDD movie is like. If it weren’t for the association with the Halloween series, it would have been a straight-to-video one. Seriously, it’s THAT bad. Now, even though I said it didn’t deserve my rants I did rant a bit on the movie so I guess I’ll continue this post to rant on my sworn enemy.

I used to hate people who smoke in public places so much I never thought I’d see the day something replaces them in my heart (halahh..). Turns out living in Jakarta has introduced me to the lowly species that is motorbike riders. I HATE them. I REALLY HATE them. I HATE them with all my heart. And if you’re a pedestrian in Jakarta then I’m sure that you will agree to at least some of what I’m saying.

Motorbike riders in Jakarta showed me that THEY, and not smokers, are the most selfish creature in this whole world, my world at least. I’m sure every pedestrian has had a rider honking him from behind when walking on the walkway. I’m sorry, I thought walkways are meant for pedestrians. Are you walking? No, you’re not. SO WHAT’S WITH THE HONKING??!!!!

Riders also NEVER stop even if they’re going to run into something. They don’t stop even if it seems they’re gonna collide with a car so there’s just NO way in hell that they’d stop for a pedestrian. As I mentioned before , I’ve had riders barely avoiding me at the intersection DURING THE RED LIGHT just because they won’t hit the brake. I’ve even had a rider actually running me over EVEN THOUGH I WAS CROSSING AT THE ZEBRA CROSS!!! Fortunately I survived the accident (dengan memar di sana-sini bak korban penganiayaan) with my head and all four limbs intact. Masih inget aku, motor kawasaki ninja (sedikit curhat ^^).

Yang bikin lebih sebel lagi, motor kalo nyelip-nyelip suka-sukanya aja. Tapi kalo dia kesenggol marah. Eh monyong!! Macam jalan neneknya aja dibikinnya.. Jujur, kalo ngeliat kecelakaan (yang 90% korbannya motor tentu saja) aku udah gak ada kasian sama sekali ngeliat pengendara motor yang jadi korban. Bukan apa-apa, kemungkinan besar he brought it upon himself.

I know, I know, not all riders are like that. But due the VERY HIGH frequency of my meeting an ass**** rider, I’ve adopted the principle “guilty until proven otherwise” ato kalo dalam bahasa Indonesia, “praduga bersalah”. Kalo elok laku dia, barulah aku menganggap “Oh, ini orang. Bukan pengendara motor.” kehkehkehh

No offense to riders reading this. Sukur-sukur pengendara motor yang baca ini agak bertobat dikit. Kalo ada orang lagi nyebrang dikasi lewat. Gak suka ngebut dengan motornya yang saking ributnya kayaknya kalo diukur mencapai desibel 100. Ato kalopun kelakuannya gak berubah setidaknya abis nabrak orang ada lah kepikiran dikit..

Watched the pilot episode of psych and I think I’m gonna watch the rest of season 1. It has its cliched scenes here and there but the story was interesting (bizarre is more like it I guess) and (the most important thing) funny without trying too hard to be funny. It’s not sitcom funny mind you, more like a one-hour series that has humor blended into it, like “Monk” (though I don’t like “Monk”). Which, reminds me of “How I Met Your Mother”, zealously promoted by a friend of mine. I gave it a try and turned out it’s just one of those run-of-the-mill sitcoms. The jokes were stale and the scenes felt too scripted. Or maybe I’m just past that age to watch sitcoms (mang ada?? )..

Luv this movie. It’s an animation but not the childish type. Exciting, thrilling with interesting story. And one thing I really like from this movie is that it doesn’t have the preachy moment that every single Pixar movie seems to have. The downside is this movie is a bit short, only a little more than an hour but a pleasure to watch nonetheless. Though, keeping in mind that it’s short, I suggest you watch in weekdays since the weekend fare is a bit more expensive and may not seem worth it to some.

When “Watchmen” was being showed here I don’t know why, but I wanted to watch it so much even though I don’t usually like that kind of movies. But I didn’t have the time (and the money ) that I only got to watch it today (courtesy of ITC kuningan). And I thanked myself for not being able to allocate the money to watch it at XXI. IT WAS AWFUL. ughhh.

The guy playing dr. manhattan was trying too hard to be the all-powerful omniscient being that he was supposed to be (and failed badly at it), that stupid long-haired girl was completely useless and the makeup was mediocre at best (Dan has flabby tummy but somehow it was gone whenever he dons his costume). And the story.. ughh don’t get me started on the story. While watching it I can’t help thinking to myself, “what kind of a joke is this?”. Basically the movie was just a parade of special effects that you get tired of halfway (or maybe not even halfway). And it’s 2.5 hours long. Can you imagine sitting in the cinema for 2.5 hours cursing yourself for wasting your money on 2.5 hour-long torture?? I shudder at the mere thought of it. >_<

equilibrium.. mmm

Setelah berkali-kali ngubek-ngubek itc kuningan dan gak pernah nemu dvdnya aku berhasil juga nonton Equilibrium setelah di korea.  For those who didn’t know, Equilibrium is a 2002 sci-fi action flick starring Christian Bale. Ceritanya agak -agak mirip Minority Report kurasa (walopun aku tak pernah nonton Minority Report ). Anak mudanya mulanya was a part of the dictatorship but then turned against the government and became the champion of the people instead. Kira-kira begitulah ceritanya. Standar sih but that’s okay, namanya juga film action, what did you expect?  Yang jadi andalan dari film ini ya apalagi kalo bukan actionnya. Actionnya mirip-mirip matrix (lah posternya aja mirip bett) ato dengan kata lain kerennn. Tapi yang sangat disayangkan adalahhh… tamatnya. Hayyah antiklimaks sekali kalo menurutku, soalnya kok kayaknya gampang kali selesainya…?? Tapi pas baca-baca di internet ada juga yang bilang tamatnya “a brilliant climax”.   Kesimpulannya, equilibrium pas untuk kalo mo refreshing dan lagi malas mikir berhubung nontonnya gak pake mikir dan actionnya cukup menghibur.

Berhubung lagi libur, kegiatan torrent menggila jadilah banyak dorama menumpuk untuk ditonton salah satunya adalah last friends yang sebetulnya dah lama mo kutonton tapi malas karena ngeliat ada nishikido ryo. Akhirnya saking gak ada kerjaannya ya ditonton la tu dorama. Dan seperti dugaanku, tiap si jelek itu muncul esmoni jiwa awak.  Tapi ternyata, selain nishikido ada yang hampir sama menyebalkannya: Masami Nagasawa. Dia tu ya, kalo mengutip salah satu blog, “has the acting capabilities of a broomstick”. Aktingnya makkk jeleknyaa. Kerjanya cengengesan mulu sepanjang film. Ato kalo gak cengengesan ya nangis tapi nangisnya nampak kali palsunya.  Untungnya pemeran-pemeran lainnya aktingnya bagus. Terutama Eita nu kasep pisan  

Yahh sebetulnya belum siap aku nonton semua. Abis tiap mo nonton ilfil duluan ngebayangin bakal ngeliat si jelek nishikido. Dan yang bikin sebel, aku baca aslinya tuh si jelek tuh perannya cepet mati dan ceritanya bakal lebih fokus ke michiru-ruka-takeru. Ehh gara-gara banyak yang suka ngeliat si jelek jadilah tak mati-mati dia (matinya baru di ep. 10 ato 11 gitu kalo gak salah). Bahh menyebalkann.. Tapi aside from the lousy performances of those two, doramanya lumayan kok. Apalagi kalo kalian gak sentimen ma nishikido kek aku.

Just finished watching Prince Caspian (I know, I know, it’s an old movie but I haven’t written a movie review for a long time so there). The first half was surprisingly good. Compared to the first movie you might even say it’s very good. But the second half.. well.. it just seemed to me as if they’ve spent all their energy for the first half and by the time of the second half they’re out of steam. I mean, Peter is a High King for God’s sake. How could a High King let himself be distracted in the middle of a battle..!! The battle was not going in their favor so he was desperately looking for Lucy to save the day…?? Come ON!! And Caspian  was getting more and more annoying up to the end of the movie.

Sebetulnya filmnya lumayan sih. Lumayan lah untuk mengisi waktu. I’d say 7 out of 10. Eh ato 6 ya?  

 

The Dark Knight

The dark knight = kereeeeennn!!! Great movie An exhilarating fast-paced action movie. Another one of those rare movies where I didn’t glance at my watch in the first 15 minutes I walked into the cinema expecting just another run-of-the-mill action movie and boy, was I in for a surprise. And a very pleasant surprise it was I didn’t expect too much since the first movie was just so-so to me. But this one exceeded my expectations and showed that Hollywood can still dish out a great movie every now and then. Christian Bale IS Bruce Wayne. You cannot picture anyone else playing that role (George Clooney, anyone?). Heath Ledger acting was superb. He made the psychotic Joker a believable real-life character. Joker is no longer just another villain from a comic.
Another thing that I love from the movie is the setting. All the previous movies were shot mostly at dark. Since Gotham has always been described kind of like a city in eternal night. But Gotham in “The Dark Knight” was different. Just like real cities, it has day and night. In short, Christopher Nolan has turned Gotham from just a fictional city in a comic into a city so realistic you’d think it actually exists in reality. That Batman lives there. And I mean he LIVES there. He doesn’t just happen to live in a city named Gotham. That the action could take place anywhere. No, with this movie you could never imagine Batman is from a city named XX (write in any name you want here).
However, one thing to keep in mind, DO NOT LET CHILDREN WATCH THE MOVIE. The violence was a bit, well, above (or below?) average. I actually grimaced at several scenes though I’m usually not disturbed by violent scenes (or is it because I’m getting old?? )
Bottom line, it’s a great movie. Even if you weren’t interested in it, give it a chance. VERY satisfying. I’d say 9 out of 10

 

Stardust: a refreshing movie :)

Huhuhuu aku lagi senaangg after a long long time I finally watch a good movie. watching the movie reminded me how a good movie would make you feel afterwards. It would make you feel satisfied and refreshed the moment you got up from your seat instead of grumbling and trying to forget about the fact that you’ve just wasted your money and time. Watching Stardust last night also reminded me that I haven’t watched a good movie for a long long time. And that made me wonder. Is it only because Hollywood has a serious shortage of good movies? Or is it me getting older and more critical at every movie that I watch?

For me, myself, my own parameter of a good movie lies in the first 15 minutes. Any movie that I don’t think as good, would make me look at my watch during the first 15 minutes. And then I would groan “oh no, there’s still more than one hour left”

Eh kok jadi gak ceritain Stardust ya? hahaa. Pokoknya kalo Stardust mah cuman tiga kata lah. Go watch it!!

 

babel

walo filmnya udah basi tapi peduli amat.. pokoke aku mo nulis. tumben2an ol soalnya :p

aku mo ngomentarin babel (nyang katenye bagus itu loo..). mulanya aku gak minat nonton. soalnya ada brad pitt. brad pitt kan jaminan mutu (mutu jelek maksudnya :p). tapi si juju’ bilang babel bagus. katanya kayak Crash. Lah, secara Crash adalah one of the best movies EVER to me, jadilah aku tertarik menonton. menjerumuskan fifi ama muti pula. dah nontonnya malam minggu, di XXI pula. mahal jheee… 25 rebong.

ternyata… biasa aja tuuuhh… rada maksa pulak hubungan antara tokoh2-nya. abis nonton juga g ada perasaan apa-apa. entah terharu kek, apa kek. pokoke gak bisa dibandingin lah ama crash. yang bilang kayak crash itu justru menghina crash!! :p tapi mungkin ini gara2 expectationku terlalu tinggi yaa. selain itu suasananya juga gak mendukung. penonton2nya tu ya, minta ditendang. dah mo kulempar batu aja rasanya. masak waktu adegan nangis malah ada yang ketawa!!! gmana g mo dihajar…

yah pokoknya.. maafkan aku ya fi, mut, telah menjerumuskan kalian mengeluarkan uang 25rb untuk film yang mestinya sih nonton dari rileks aja.

tambahan: baru kepikiran. jangan2 aku tergila2 ama crash gara2 ada mas Ryan Philippe nan cakep ya??
